Poppy returns

Hey everyone.. Poppy has asked to write another blog post. (For those of you that dont know poppy is my Dad who has been a guest blogger. He is amazing.... After I read this.. I was truly touched.

Without further ado....Heres Poppy..

The Age of 5 Has Hit!!!
About two weeks ago my grandson Tommy turned 5 years old.  Only God knows shat has happened to him since then. We thought that the “terrible twos” were a child’s wild time, but Tommy has changed that theory, at least in my mind.

Let me expound on several of the escapades of this 5 year old fireball.  First of all, he only hears what he wants to hear – I know you women say that about all guys.  Last week his Mema was asking him something and he kept ignoring her.  I finally said that “the house was on fire” and he jumped up and said “where? – Do I have to go outside and wait at the mailbox? (the meeting place if a fire ever does break out).

He has been running around the house on all four for the last two weeks like a dog (and boy is he fast!)  He is constantly antagonizing his older brother to the point where we tell Christopher to give Tommy a good kick in the butt to make him shut up!  He takes everything away from his little brother and makes him cry unmercifully.  When Will turns around and pushes him Tommy blames him for everything.
Every night at dinner all we hear is my Son-in-law yelling at Tommy.  Sit still, start eating, don’t kick your brother and stop wiping butter on your shirt!  Whatever he is told to do he either ignores it or does the opposite.  Tommy you are wearing us all out!  Did the bad fairy hit you on the head when you turned 5?
Last night, after causing a commotion in the bathroom with his brother over brushing his teeth, he hopped on my back and asked me for a piggyback ride to his bed which I did.  He then plopped in my lap and said “Poppy let’s say prayers now – OK?”
At the end of his prayers he said his litany asking God to watch over each of his family members and then he said “and thank you God for giving me the best Poppy in the world – Amen”. I melted like an ice cream cone in 90 degree heat.  Then he kissed me on my cheek, said I love you Poppy and said he promised to be good.  He went straight to sleep. Who said that Tommy was bad?

YOUR BENCHED!!!!

It 's a beautiful Sunday and my husbands favorite NFL team is on a buy.. So..we frolicked in the backyard and Hubby and the boys started playing a quick game of baseball.. I admit was trying to be a good second baseman.. I mean I'm a girlie girl who rather be getting a manicure than a fly ball but let's remember I have three boys.. So..I try..I really try.. However.. the boys told me to sit on the bench after I cost the opposing team two runs.. (Okay I really suck)
Hubby: Honey why don't you take a break
Me: No..Im good
Tommy: Mommy really sit on the bench.. Ill let Will play in your spot...
Me: He's only two
Christopher: Yeah but he catches way better
Me: What?
Tommy:..Mommy If you played real ball you would Not be a Yankee.. Your just not that Good!!!(Then kisses my arm)

Okay ..lessoned learned...I'm going to start dinner...LOL!!!!

A little monsters big day!!!

Today is Halloween.. It’s also my son Tommy’s birthday party.  ( I like to call him my little monster...). Yes.. we invited all our friends and their kids to Trick or Treat and then back to our house for pizza and cake.. My son actually thinks that Halloween is a Holiday just for him.. I go along with it.. "Yes Tommy the whole country dresses up and goes in search of candy just for you…LOL!!" Poor Tommy.. he’s so  excited for this big event.. But even though he’s a year older  ( a big 5) his humorous banter still kills me..He cracks me up with the things that come out of his mouth.. This morning as he was getting a bath he said .. “Mom  weally (his accent) who the hell gets a baf on their birfthday??" I tried to do the mom thing and say.. Don’t say hell but instead I just covered my face with a towel as I laughed…. Oh Tommy!!!… Happy Birthday and Happy Halloween!!!!  We all know you are my child….

My Dad is my Guest Blogger....

So.. my dad is a great writer.  I guess I got my love of the pen from him.. well he sent me this awesome post he wrote and I am so happy to introduce you to..POPPY....   So my bloggy friends give my dad some love...

Nat’s Day Off

Once in a blue moon, my daughter does something for herself.  Recently, she decided to spend one weekend day with her husband down in AC where he was attending a conference for work.  Natalee can hear the “ca Ching” of the coins falling from the slot machines from as far away as exit 145 on the GSP.  Well, while she and hubby were off having a grand old time, guess who had the kids?  Yep, me (Poppy) and  Mema.  Mema did have to call Nat once to tell her something and had to leave a message.  When Nat called back Mema said that she figured that she must have been enjoying a little afternoon delight or in the casino – Of course the answer was, “to hell with the afternoon delight – I’m in the Casino”  What did I tell you!!!

I guess you can say that everything went as usual, starting with dinner.  Little Will was at the table before we were ready to eat since he has to be the first one – always ready to eat with his little fork in hand.  Pot Pie?  No Will, little raviolis.  Olees?  Yes Will.  Bwed?  Yes Will, bread & butter too!   Mmmmm good!

As usual, Tommy got to the table and took his shirt off, now naked from the waist up. I don’t want to mess up my shurt (what an accent he has).  He had his sketti with butter and by the time he was done he had enough grease on his body to fill a can of WD-40. As long as he eats.  He is so skinny that we can actually paint his body to look like a real skeleton while Will could easily pass for a mini sumo wrestler.  Christopher was actually the quiet one for a change, downing all of his raviolis and plenty of bread & butter.

After dinner they played on the deck for a while until Mema called them in for hot chocolate.  After that I spent time with Christopher & Tom playing bowling with the Wii (Christopher always beats my butt) while Mema and our daughter Christi kept Will occupied.

Bedtime came quickly and the older boys were very good.  They put on their jamies, brushed their teeth, said their prayers and went to sleep without a hitch.  Now Will is another story.

The only thing that calmed him down was to watch Barbie videos (see one of Nat’s blogs about Will and his Barbie dolls).  After hearing the Barbie musketeer song 8 times, I was about to jump out of my skin.  In the other hand, Mema told me to relax and keep my eyes on Will.  Sure enough, by the end of the 8th rendition he was asleep!!!   He slept between us that night.  Lucky for me I can sleep thru anything, but poor Mema only got an hour sleep that night.  She said that Will was all over the place and any time he moved, which is constant, she was awake. He finally got up for good at 4:30 AM and Mema took him upstairs so he wouldn’t wake his brothers.  By 5:30 we were all up, ready for another exciting day with the boys.

All we can say is Natalee, you are truly lucky that we love you or….  Just kidding kid.  While you were pulling on the one arm bandit, we were making memories.

Love ya,

Poppy & Mema
